The Mr. and I have been wanting to take a little road trip to Savannah, GA for some time now. Once we realized we would be able to go this past week, we jumped right on it! We left bright and early for the beautiful town. We arrived nice and early so we could walk around the historic district before checking into our hotel.
The sites were absolutely beautiful! The town has such incredible character, and the people are so nice! As in, instead of a simple "smile" when passing by, they actually stop and ask how you are doing. Too sweet!
Not to mention, we were suckers the their "sawthun draaawl"
Our first night there, we enjoyed the "City Market" and soaked up some live music and yummy wings for dinner!
We knew we had to locate Paula Deen's restaurant, Lady and Sons so we would be ready to get in "the line" the next morning to make dinner reservations. We were warned of "the line" and told we had to wake up early to make sure we could get reservations for that day.
We found her adorable restaurant and walked around her precious store. While in the store we heard some amaaaaazing news from someone in passing. It stopped me and the Mr. dead in our tracks! Someone asked a friend if they were going to Paula Deen's book signing tomorrow. OK...WHOAH!!!! I politely entered their conversation for great details! It was right then when we knew exactly what we were doing the next day! And we couldn't wait! We really enjoyed our first night in Savannah. It was relaxing and very quaint.
The next morning, we woke up and headed in the drizzle rain to Lady and Sons to stand in "the line". Worried that we may not get a good spot, we were actually prompt in our arrival! See the Mr. in line?
See! Prompt! 30 minutes later after we made our reservation, the line was wrapped alllll around the building! Early bird gets the worm!
After our reservations for dinner were made, we got ready and ventured toward Tybee Island. Tybee is an adorable, small, local beach town about 20 minutes away from historic Savannah. It was a beautiful drive!
We walked on their fishing pier, soaked up the beach, and enjoyed the sites. We know where we will be going next summer!
After we enjoyed the sites of Tybee, it was about time to attempt getting a wrist band for Paula's book signing. It was at her little brother's restaurant, Uncle Bubba's Oyster House just between the historic district and Tybee. We arrived right on time, went straight in, and got our wrist bands! We purchased her big cook book, and left for lunch!
The joy of this was that once you had your wrist band/number, you were good to leave and do whatever until time for the book signing to begin. That was nice so we could venture around for several more hours!
A cousin of mine informed us that we had to go to The Crab Shack in Tybee for the best seafood.
It was an adorable place. There was something everywhere you turned! Feeding alligators, lights from the trees, rescued tropical birds, a band, and the list goes on! We stayed there for quite a while enjoying all the things and of course the food!
The Mr. kept saying it was like a club house! We loved it! I had crab legs of course, and mashed taters and he had shrimp, crab soup, and mashed taters. Mmmm...mm!
Once we finished, and after driving around viewing the sites, we ventured back to Uncle Bubba's for the signing. We were really excited about meeting her, her brother, Uncle Bubba, Michael (Her Mr.), and her two sons (who had to leave..so we didn't actually meet her adorable sons) As we were waiting, our number category was called and we waited in line for a bit until they called us back to meet them! As we were waiting my Mr. pulled a smooth move! Earlier in the day, I spotted an adorable pink, Paula Deen printed apron. I had a fit over it, and thought it was too cute and just what I needed to have to wear while entertaining. (Every woman needs a fancy apron to wear while entertaining! That's what we think in our family at least!) Since buying the big cookbook, I didn't have the heart to ask for it. So, I didn't. After all ladies, the Mr. DID stand in TWO different types of lines on this day for Paula Deen! Anyways, as we were waiting to meet the Queen, my Mr. pulls out the precious pink apron and says smoothly, "You'll have to have her sign this too!" I flipped, and scrame, and well, made a scene! But, that's me right!? It was adorable! He is too precious, and the best Mr. ever!
We finally got to meet her, and she was just as beautiful, and charming as she is on TV. She was just precious! She asked me for a hug! It was like she was my grandmother (OH how I wish she were!)
Her words were "Oh! Sugar, just look at how adorable you are...come here and give me a big ole' hug" HA! Too cute!
We had a blast, and the professional photographer got some great pics of us! That was nice that they had him there. They post them online, and you can purchase whatever you
want of them! Some of our pictures turned out fuzzy that we took (we were convinced the lighting was dimmed so our pictures wouldn't turn out so we would HAVE to purchase the professional ones!) Clever! It was absolutely an incredible time, and it was just a really special time for the Mr. and I!
Later that evening, we got ready for our dinner reservations at Lady and Sons. All I have to say is we left full full FULL! WOW! The food was some good southern cooking! I am so glad I have her cook book so I can start making some yummy food like we had that night!
The next day, we woke up and took in a few more sites before heading home! It was a lovely trip! Defiantly a trip that we will take again! Savannah is a charming town. Just our style!
We thank God for even allowing us to go on this trip, for protecting us on our travel, and for truly blessing our marriage with His great love towards us and our marriage! We couldn't have even done any of this if it weren't for Him. God is oh so good!
